Museums
 At the top of the Company gardens is the immensely interesting South African Museum, which has an exhibit on the different African people of South Africa, their history and culture.  It also has a natural history section, which is of secondary interest. 25 Queen Victoria Street.  Open daily 1000 to 1700.   

 The museum also operates a Planetarium and is an important centre of research. Open daily 1000 to 1700. It has excellent shows Tuesday to Friday at 1300, Saturday at 1200, 1300 and 1430 and Sunday at 1400 and 1530. 

 The South African Cultural Museum offers a great overlook of early Settler history detailing the colonization of the Cape through letters, paintings, clothing and furniture. Situated on the corner of Adderley and Wale Street. Open Monday to Saturday 0930 to 1630.

The South African National Gallery, which is also in the gardens, has a growing display of contemporary South African Art and Craftwork. Open daily 1000 to 1700 except Mondays when it opens at 1300.

 In contrast, Koopmans-De Wet house is a museum showing the typical colonial interior of a Cape Town House in the late 18th and early 19th century, and houses a superb collection of antiques, carpets, paintings and porcelain. Situated on 35 Strand Street between Long and Burg Streets. Open Tuesday to Saturday 0930 to 1630.

 Bertram House is another unique Georgian town house museum with a collection of furniture, silver, jewellery and porcelain.  Situated at the top of Government Avenue on the corner of Orange Street and a short walk from the Company Gardens. Open Tuesday to Saturday 0930 to 1630.

The Gold of Africa Museum is dedicated to African Gold and comprises a workshop, design library, wine cellar, presentation suite, sculpture garden, museum shop and a gold boutique. It houses a collection of over 350 African gold artefacts from the 19th and 20th centuries from West Africa. The Museum is situated in the Martin Melck House at 96 Strand Street. Open daily 1000 to 1700. Parking is available at the corner of Buitengracht Street and Strand Street.

 The District Six museum is a small new museum depicting the history of the "District Six" area in central Cape Town, which was a vibrant multi-cultural area in the 1960's. The people of the area were forcibly removed by the Apartheid government under the Group Areas Act and this museum brings alive the former residents of this area.
