DAY 1 ARRIVAL CAPE TOWN – SOUTH AFRICA Arrival at Cape Town International Airport. After clearing customs and immigration you are met and transferred to your hotel situated in Cape Town’s popular Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Weather permitting; ascend the mountain by aerial cable car. From a height of 1067 metres view the city and Table Bay below; also Robben Island, the Atlantic seaboard and most of the spectacular Cape Peninsula. Head down into the Malay Quarter with its narrow cobbled streets and colourful Mosques. Having parked at the top of Government Avenue stroll to the National Gallery, the SA Museum and the Houses of Parliament. Continue to the City Hall on the Grand Parade and later a pass the Castle of Good Hope. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight: THE TABLE BAY HOTEL Bed & Breakfast DAY 3 IN CAPE TOWN Collection from your hotel. First drive through the exclusive suburbs of Seapoint, Clifton and Camps Bay. Continue via Llandudno to the fishing harbour of Hout Bay. If calm seas prevail, join a launch cruise to view the Duiker Island seals and cormorants at close quarters. Enter the Cape Point Nature Reserve where you will be taken to the best vantage point to view what is erroneously said to be the meeting place of two mighty oceans (The Indian and The Atlantic). After stopping for lunch the tour continues to an African penguin colony, the Naval hamlet of Simonstown and then via Fishhoek and Kalk Bay to Muizenburg. In the early afternoon visit the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens at the base of Skeleton Gorge. Return to the city via Rhodes Drive that bisects the plush suburbs of Bishops Court, Claremont and Newlands. The tour terminates at your hotel in the late afternoon. Overnight: THE TABLE BAY HOTEL Lunch, Bed & Breakfast DAY 4 IN CAPE TOWN After collection from your hotel, we leave the city and head along the N1 motorway to visit the Afrikaans Taal Monument on the outskirts of Paarl. Next we stop at the entrance of the Victor Verster Prison from which President Nelson Mandela was released from detention. A scenic drive is taken to the Franschhoek Valley where you visit one of the many fine wine estates in the region. A cellar tour and a tasting of "the nectar of the gods" is included. Cross the Helshoogte Pass (Hell's Heights) and descend into historic Stellenbosch, centre of learning, rugby and the wine industry. We stop at a second wine estate for lunch washed down with local wines. After a short guided tour of the second oldest South African town a unique shopping experience awaits you at Oom Samie se Winkel (Uncle Sam's shop). The tour terminates at in the late afternoon. This evening you are collected from your hotel and taken to a private farm for a traditional South African barbeque. It is a pretty city - its gardens and trees flourish in the fertile, well-watered soil of the Apies river valley - and springtime brings the spectacle of tens of thousands of flowering jacaranda trees. This mix of modern and historic is also found in many places of interest in the city. The visitor will find a variety of museums that preserve relics of days gone by, and also fascinating glimpses of up-to-minute scientific and industrial developments. Visit the Voortrekker Monument, an interesting historical landmark associated with the early Voortrekkers (pioneers) of South Africa. Drive past the Union Buildings, the administrative headquarters of the government, Church Square and other places of historical interest. Arrival at The Sheraton Pretoria Hotel and Towers for check in. Arrival at Skukuza Airport where you are met by your ranger and transferred to world-renowned Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve. Surrender your senses to the wild. Breathe the warmth of Africa, absorb the bushveld sounds and luxuriate in the elegance of the meticulously appointed lodges that overlook waterholes where herds of game come to drink. Return to your camp where a hearty breakfast awaits you in the main dining room. Should you be interested in a game walk, speak to your game ranger who will gladly oblige. Alternatively, relax around the pool, browse through the safari boutique or perhaps take a siesta to make up for that early morning wake-up call. Once again lunch and dinner are served at the lodge and the option of joining the night drive to catch a last glimpse of those elusive nocturnal predators.
