LLandudno and Hout Bay Villa rentals |
Llandudno
Leave the bustle of Camps Bay and follow the winding sweep of road that hugs the Atlantic coastline, where the mountain reserve slips into the ocean. A few minutes' drive through spectacular scenery leads you to the entrance to the secluded enclave of Llandudno, a prime real estate area with its own cove beach.
The combination of a gently sloping seabed, white sand and crystal clear water gives Llandudno Bay its extraordinary turquoise hue. The beach is a favourite with surfers, nature- and sundowner-lovers. Magnificent modern mansions wrapped around giant granite boulders co-exist comfortably with Cape Cod-style beach houses. Children and dogs play happily in the quiet streets and the safety of the area is ensured by the single road access at the top of Llandudno, and the total lack of any commercial activity. If you're out of milk or desperately need a chocolate bar you'll have to take a trip to nearby Hout Bay!
Adventure-loving naturists should take the wildly beautiful path through the Sandy Bay nature reserve to Cape Town's only nudist beach. This totally secluded cove beach, backed by huge dunes and raw mountainside is quite exquisite and well worth the walk. Live dangerously - a naked plunge into the cool, clear Atlantic is an experience to be savoured forever!
Hout Bay
The community of Hout Bay is so proud of their scenic valley that they have declared it an unofficial 'republic'. The Disa River meanders lazily from the densely forested mountain slopes, though fertile farmland to the deep blue bay encircled by mountain peaks. The half-moon beach which stretches from gentle surf at one end to the harbour at the other is equally loved by families, dog walkers and gnarled local characters alike. Fishing boats chug home pursued by seagulls and discharge both fish and fisherman, tired after a hard night's fishing, onto the quayside.
Festive restaurants welcome families and the occasional well-behaved pet. Those venues with a sea view often reward their diners with the spectacle of whales spouting in the bay. Shopping facilities in the village are excellent, with low-key modern shops, specialist boutiques, farm stalls with fresh local produce, art galleries and African craft shops. On Sunday mornings the village green comes alive with a market featuring local handmade products.
Hout Bay homes may vary from beachside villas, elegant homes clinging to the hillside over the bay, equestrian estates to organic forest houses. Although Hout Bay varies enormously in character, the area is know for its outdoor, bohemian lifestyle. Cycle along the craggy scenic drive to Chapmans Peak, climb a mountain and meditate at the peak, windsurf or kayak in the bay, take a long walk along the beach, make a homemade curry from local organic vegetables or just relax in private in your vacation villa.
BALI HOUSE - a luxury Eastern style seaside villa in Llandudno
This seaside house offers a unique setting, masses of space, utter privacy and a double volume, skylit interior.
Bali House is located in the most desirable seaside position in Llandudno, tucked away at the end of a private road, the last before the beach. The surrounding trees screen off the neighbouring properties and enhance the privacy, whilst allowing an unobstructed view of the sea below your blacony.
Offering wonderful double-volume spaces from the huge, cool entrance hall to the dark high-raftered open plan living and play area upstairs. There is room for everyone to find privacy in a personal tranquil space, or to enjoy fabulous times together in any one of the various entertainment areas.
Almost entirely surrounded by the mountain, the little beach village of Llandudno is accessible from one point only. Dotted with large, round granite outcrops, its white beach is one of the private gems of Cape Town. Should you tire of seaside living, the bright lights of Cape Town are a mere fifteen minutes' drive away or the original fishing village of Hout Bay is literally over the next hill.
