Driving Safaris: This is by a Safari Jeep, with about 10seats, accompanied by a guide and or a driver and a tracker. Some companies arm there guides with rifles, others do not. Driving in the private game lodge concessions of the Kruger National Park, Kwa Zulu or Botswana means that you can go offroad to trtack animals, etc. The Public portion of the Kruger Park allows only on road game viewing. Some of the jeeps have canopies ie sunshades other dont...bring along a hat, sunscreen, and a light long sleeve shirt if you are sun sensitive. Walking Safaris: For me this is the untimate way to do a Safari. When you walk, you are on the animals level. Walking brings you close in touch, with the natural world. Certain game parks like Londolozi, Phinda, Botswana offer walking Safaris. A few companies offer walking Safaris in the Kruger Park. There is a certain level of fitness, durablity ie being the outdoors, hot sun, insects, that goes along with wanting to do a Walking Safari. They can last for a day, usually 3 to 5 hours in the morning, and more in th evening, or go on for as long as you want it to. You can also combine a few days walking, with some days driivng. It goes without saying that all walking safaris are accompanied by specialized games guides. Deepnding on the area, you will sleep in semi permanent camps, or taken back to a base camp. |
