AccommodationThe South National Park offer a wide variety of accommodations, not only in size, facilities and visual appearance, but also in price range. All accommodation units are serviced daily with bedding, towels and soap provided. Most of the units have either air-conditioning or fans. Those visitors who are accommodated in units without cooking facilities have to provide their own cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. (Such details will be given on making your reservation) Barbecue and communal cooking facilities are available in all the camps. Wheelchair lodging options are available Below are a list of all available accommodation types in Kruger National PArk Bungalow and Luxury Riverside Bungalow Bungalows - round-walled single-roomed African style units with thatched rooves. 2 or 3 beds per unit, equipped with en-suite ablutions (most with showers, but some with baths). Most units have air-conditioning. Kitchenettes vary: some have hotplates and sinks, some have only sinks, while some have neither. Cutlery and crockery may be provided or can be hired from reception. Visitors should confirm all of the above when booking. Bungalows are found in Kruger in the following camps: Berg-en-dal, Crocodile Bridge, Letaba, Lower Sabie, Mopani, Olifants, Pretoriuskop, Punda Maria, Satara, Shingwedzi, Malelane and Skukuza. Luxury Riverside Bungalow (Skukuza)Luxury Riverside Bungalows - bungalows along the river frontage have a more modern design. Still one bed roomed, with en suite bathroom, these units have large glass sliding doors providing excellent views of the river and its wildlife. The units each have a double bed, quality decor, air-conditioning and have satellite television offering limited channels. All in all these units portray a very warm and welcoming ambiance. Bush camps/lodgesA bush lodge is an exclusive, private lodge with a unique style and atmosphere providing the opportunity for tourists to enjoy complete privacy, as only residents are allowed entrance to the camp. There are bush camps in Marakele and Kgalagadi and Bush Lodges in Kruger. That at Marakele has communal ablutions. For Kruger, check in and any outstanding payment can be made at any gate or restcamp as the bush lodges do not have reception offices. There are no shops or restaurant facilities, but the kitchen has a gas stove with oven, refrigerator, freezer, cutlery and crockery. Gas braais and barbecue facilities are provided and wood may be purchased. A bush lodge must be reserved en bloc. Boulders and Roodewal are the two Kruger bush lodges. CampingCamping and caravaning is permitted in most of the parks. In most a campsite is open to either tents or caravans, however Tsitsikamma and Wilderness have specific sites. For the other parks, a maximum of six persons, one caravan with a side tent and one vehicle, or one tent and one vehicle, or one autovilla, or one motorised caravan will be permitted per site. In the case of camping with a small tent, more than one tent will be permitted on a site, provided the maximum number of 6 persons is not exceeded. Most campsites are have sites equipped with power points although in some cases this only applies to a portion of the sites (consult specific park for details). Visitors may use generators from one hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset only. Communal kitchen and ablution facilities are available in all the camps. In Kruger a communal freezer is available for campers at Malelane, Balule and Maroela. Cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery are not provided. Although ground sheets may be used in the restcamps, specific arrangements must be made at the reception office of those camps where lawns have been planted. Camping is offered at Addo Elephant, Augrabies Falls, Bontebok, Golden Gate (Glen Reenen), Karoo, Kgalagadi, Kruger, Marakele, Mountain Zebra, Richtersveld, Tsitsikamma (Storm’s River and Nature's Valley), Vaalbos and Wilderness. In Kruger the following restcamps have camping: Balule, Berg-en-Dal, Crocodile Bridge, Letaba, Lower Sabie, Malelane, Maroela, Pretoriuskop, Punda Maria, Satara, Shingwedzi and Skukuza. ChalavanChalavans are like permanent caravan-cum-cottages. Those at Bontebok have communal ablutions, while those at Mata Mata in Kgalagadi are self-equipped. ChaletChalets are semi-detached open plan units with one or more bedrooms as indicated. Larger units may be known as family chalets. Found at Addo, Augrabies, Golden Gate (Brandwag), Karoo, Kgalagadi and Tsitsikamma. CottageCottages are stand-alone units and comprise one bedroom and a living room, a bathroom and a partially equipped kitchen or kitchenette. Cottages are found in Karoo, Kgalagadi, Kruger and Tsitsikamma. In Kruger they occur at Punda Maria, Mopani, Biyamiti, Shimuwini, Sirheni and Talamati. Family CottageFamily cottages are units with one, two or three bedrooms with one bathroom and a partially equipped kitchen. Family cottages are found in Augrabies Falls, Karoo, Kgalagadi, Kruger (Skukuza, Berg-en-dal, Pretoriuskop and Olifants), Vaalbos and Wilderness. Forest Hut & CabinsForest Huts are budget, single-room furnished units. They have either 2 or 4 beds. Some have communal kitchen and communal ablutions (huts), some are fully-equipped (cabins). Consult the park accommodation details. Forest huts occur at Addo Elephant, Tsitsikamma (De Vasselot and Storm’s River) and Wilderness. Guest CottageGuest cottages are units with two or three bedrooms and at least two bathrooms, of which one is en suite. Kitchens are fully equipped. They are found in Kruger, Addo and Richtersveld. They are found in Addo Elephant, Kruger and Richtersveld. The camps in Kruger with guest cottages are Skukuza, Mopani, Olifants, Lower Sabie, Satara, Orpen, Pretoriuskop, Letaba and Shingwedzi and in all the Bushveld camps. Guest HouseGuest houses are secluded units within a restcamp. Units have three or four bedrooms, most of which have en suite bathrooms. Each guest house has a fully equipped kitchen and a communal lounge/living room or an open veranda. There is a guest house at Nossob in Kgalagadi, several in Kruger and the Doornhoek Guest House in Mountain Zebra. Those in Kruger are at Berg-en-Dal, Letaba, Lower Sabie, Mopani, Olifants, Pretoriuskop, Satara, Shingwedzi and Skukuza. Honeymoon CottageFound at Storms River in Tsitsikamma, these cottages offer an exclusive 2-person experience. These units are fully equipped. HouseboatAccommodation on anchored floating barges. While they are a little cramped, the experience of staying on water is somewhat exclusive. Found only at West Coast. HutHuts consist of one room and communal ablution and kitchen facilities. Huts are found at Kruger and Wilderness. In Kruger cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery are not provided at Lower Sabie, Pretoriuskop, Balule, Letaba or Shingwedzi, but in Orpen each hut has basic cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. Kruger Restcamps – Main, satellite and bushveld campsMain RestcampsAll the major restcamps have electricity, a first-aid centre, a shop, barbecue and communal kitchen facilities, a laundromat/laundry tubs, a restaurant and/or self-service cafeteria, public telephones and a petrol station. Information centres manned by information staff are at Letaba, Skukuza and Berg-en-dal. Holiday programmes and evening film shows of wildlife and conservation are arranged in many of the restcamps. Please enquire at reception. Nature trails have been laid out in Punda Maria, Berg-en-dal (also accessible to blind/visually impaired tourists) and Pretoriuskop. Bushveld Camps Bushveld camps provide luxurious accommodation in smaller, more remote restcamps. One or more accommodation units may be reserved. Bushveld camps do not have shops or restaurants. Access to all bushveld camps is restricted to overnight visitors with reserved accommodation. Electrical equipment, such as hair dryers, cannot be used except at Biyamiti and Bateleur. Open verandas often serve as kitchen/dining room. All units have a refrigerator, cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and a stove, either a two-plate stove without an oven or a four-plate stove with an oven in the larger units. All units have private ablution facilities. Communal freezing facilities are offered at Biyamiti, Shimuwini, Talamati and Sirheni. Night drives and/or day excursions are organised in most of the bushveld camps Bateleur consists of seven guest cottages, each housing either six or four persons. The camp has electricity and plugs are available in the units. The main bedroom in each unit has air-conditioning.Biyamiti has ten guest cottages (5 beds) and five cottages (4 beds). The camp has electricity and plugs are available in the units. All units have ceiling fans. Shimuwini has ten guest cottages (one with 6 beds, nine with 5 beds) and five cottages (4 beds). Solar panels provide power for lights and fans only. Sirheni has ten guest cottages (6 beds) and five cottages (4 beds). Solar panels provide power for lights and fans only. Talamati has ten guest cottages (one with 6 beds, nine with five beds) and five cottages (4 beds). Solar panels provide power for lights and fans only. Extra mattresses in all campsOnly a certain number of mattresses are available in each rest camp. Some camps do not allow this facility at all (e.g. Pretoriuskop). Those that do are dealt out on a first come first serve basis. For example Shingwedzi has only 15 mattresses. Clients should rather take their own, in case there are none available. Log CabinLog Cabins are essentially family cottages made out of wooden logs.They occur at Wilderness. OceanetteOceanettes are built right on the edge of the Indian Ocean at Tsitsikamma’s Storms River. They have a lounge/dining room, one bathroom a kitchen and either one or two bedrooms with large glass doors overlooking the ocean. Permanent Tents(Safari Tents, Desert Tents and Tent Camps) Tents are permanent canvas tent units on permanent platforms and are equipped with beds, a cupboard, table and chairs, fridge and electric fan. Those in Marakele and Kgalagadi are fully equipped with a kitchenette. Those in Kruger have communal ablution and kitchen facilities provided. Safari tents in Kruger are available in Crocodile Bridge, Skukuza, Letaba, Punda Maria and Tamboti except those at Lower Sabie that are fully equipped. Punda Maria’s Safari Tents are equipped with 2 single beds, a ceiling fan, bathroom with shower, a kitchenette (with fridge) on the veranda and a braai stand. One unit has been adapted for use by people with impaired mobility. This unit is loaded in the disabled reserve, and has to be booked by reservation supervisors for disabled guests from the allocations if the arrival date is more than ninety (90) days in advance. RondavelRondavels are round one-bedroom units with a thatched roof – both self-equipped and with communal facilities are offered. Found at Addo Elephant, Golden Gate and Wilderness. RoomBrandwag at Golden Gate has a variety of hotel rooms. These range from family rooms equipped with 2 double beds, double rooms with 1 double bed and rooms with 2 single beds. Most of these rooms have views, although a couple of the rooms have no view. SuiteBrandwag at Golden Gate has a honeymoon suite. Youth HostelYouth hostels catering for large groups, particularly educational groups are available at Golden Gate (Wilgenhof), Kruger (Skukuza) and West Coast (Geelbek). |
