Since 1992, Bushmans Kloof has embodied the rebirth and development of this sanctuary, with a mission to create a thriving wilderness which nurtures its indigenous life, protects its history and secures its future.
Bushmans Kloof is a privately owned wilderness reserve and is world renowned for its 130 rock art sites. In recognition of its rich cultural, historical and environmental significance, Bushmans Kloof has been declared a South African Natural Heritage site. Facilities Two lounges with fireplaces, one with satellite TV, library, billiard room, bar, wine cellar, Trading Post Gift Shop, dining room and outdoor dining terrace. | Other dining options include "Makana" outdoor dining facility with lounge and dining area that offers spectacular views overlooking the Boontjies River, as well as "Embers", a wonderful new addition to the dining experience. "Embers" is situated in a natural ancient sandstone amphitheatre of giant boulders which overlooks dramatic cliffs and valleys.
Other facilities include four swimming pools, sauna, rolling lawns and a walled herb, fruit, flower and vegetable garden. Seminar facilities on request. The Spa at Bushmans Kloof offers an extensive selection of body and beauty treatments.

Suggested diverse activities available during a 2-night stay | | Day 1: | | 14:00 | Arrive at Bushmans Kloof for an early afternoon check-in at the Manor House and a quick orientation walk around the lodge. Unpack, relax and freshen up in room. Enjoy a swim in the cool, refreshing rock pools in front of the Lodge. Contact the Spa, or Reception to book spa treatments. (If spa treatments were not pre-booked) Choose from our soothing and healing range of Signature Spa and Wellness Therapies including Body Treatments, Skincare Treatments, and Beauty Salon Services to be enjoyed in the Spa, outdoor massage areas, or in the privacy of your room or terrace. | | 15:30 | Afternoon High Tea is served. This is followed by an evening nature drive in open Land Rovers to discover, inhale and experience the magnificent wilderness and environment. View some of the plains indigenous game – the rare and endangered Cape Mountain Zebra and Bontebok, Gemsbok, Eland, Black Wildebeest and others. As the sun sets, refresh with the complimentary sundowner drinks and specially prepared home made snacks at one of the breathtaking lookout locations in the Reserve. Remember to bring, a hat, sunscreen, binoculars, sweater or jacket, and camera. The highly trained rangers will share all their valuable knowledge of the flora and fauna with you. (Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Retreat is home to 36 species of mammals, 140 bird species and 755 plant species which have been identified in the Reserve) | | 19:30 | Arrive back at the lodge and unwind, then get ready for dinner. All rooms are equipped with mini-bar fridges, en-suite bathrooms with beautiful baths and separate showers, private patios, air-conditioning, ceiling fans and under floor heating and special amenities and treats waiting to be discovered. | | 20:00 | Dinner (may either take place at Makana, Embers or The Homestead – venue weather depending and to be advised by your ranger on arrival back at the lodge). | | | | Day 2: | | 07:30 | Choice of Room Service Breakfast or Breakfast Buffet available at the Homestead. | | 08:00 | Departure on Guided Rock Art excursion to view a number of the world renowned Bushman Rock Art sites some of which date back 10,000 years (for those who wish to participate). A light delicious Bush Breakfast will be served in the reserve. OR Sleep in, and enjoy some of the beautiful facilities at the lodge, from the pools to the flower and organic gardens, the Heritage Centre, or the spa and fitness centre. | | 11:00 | Meet for Brunch at the daily venue confirmed by your ranger. A stunning full buffet of fruit, yoghurt, cereals, cold meats, cheeses, cooked breakfast, homemade quiches and breads, pasta’s and pastries and many more mouth watering delights. | | 12:00 | Special afternoon activity programme will be presented to you by your ranger which will include mountain biking, walks in the reserve, bird watching, archery, painting, fly-fishing, canoeing or relaxing at the lodge and making use of the facilities that are available – swimming pools and private library as well as the Spa. | | 15:30 | Afternoon high tea is followed by an evening nature drive or one can choose to simply do nothing but relax! | | 19:30 | Arrive back at the Lodge, freshen up, meet for drinks at our River Boma, followed by dinner in one of our extraordinary venues. (Dinner venue will vary and is weather dependant.) | | | | Day 3: | | | 7:30 | Depart on a different hike to discover more examples of our fascinating open air art gallery and be enriched as witness to more of the 130 magnificent Bushman painting sites on the reserve.
