Constantia Uitsig Hotel

Set amongst the vineyards of a private wine estate in the shadow
of Cape Town's Table Mountain, the highly acclaimed Constantia Uitsig Hotel is just twenty minutes from the city centre and Waterfront.

Constantia Uitsig’s peaceful ambience, charming service and heartfelt hospitality are enhanced by its splendid location on a working wine farm. The hotel has sixteen garden rooms furnished with elegant simplicity and sweeping views of the Constantia Valley. Exciting new developments are under way for the addition of a Spa, due to be completed in early 2007.

There is easy access to beautiful vineyard walks and mountain hikes, horse-riding, mountain biking, splendid golf courses, spas and charming shopping venues. Combined with the array of Constantia Uitsig Wines and the gourmet experience on your doorstep, your stay will be that of sheer sensory indulgence.

Each Restaurant - Constantia Uitsig, La Colombe and The River Cafe - has its own distinctive and
clearly defined style, but what they all share is inspiration, passion and an unparalleled joie de vivre.

Like its formidable forerunners, Constantia Uitsig and La Colombe Restaurant, The River Café’s popularity can be accounted for by a contemporary, fresh-on-the-day menu, location and friendly, relaxed atmosphere. It offers a restful new perspective of the valley’s vines and mountains.

This delightful venue serves sumptuous breakfasts, lunches and teas. The sunny outside seating area is surrounded by a profusion of herbs, interspersed with bright blooms. The natural surroundings are reflected in Brad’s generous portions and primarily organic ingredients. The menu includes fresh, innovative salads, sandwiches and pastas and the extravagant eggs Benedict.

Opening Times: 08h30 – 17h00

Vineyards have flourished at Constantia Uitsig since the 17th Century, when Cape governor Simon van der Stel produced his highly sought after 'gouverneur's wine.'

Constantia Uitsig, Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia, Buitenverwachting and Steenberg – the five producers making up the Constantia Wine Route – are big in quality, rich in a unique terroir, and boast a wine-making history dating back to 1685.

The valley was the cradle of quality wine-making in South Africa, and the name Constantia is linked with the most famous wines ever produced in this country. For over two centuries these natural sweet wines were sought-after by royal courts and the aristocracy of Europe.

Today Constantia is seen as a benchmark of South African wine, identified in top-of-mind awareness as one of the fine wine regions outside Europe. The significant awards garnered by producers over the last decade are testimony to the quality and consistently high standards of the wines.

Given its proximity to the city and easy accessibility. Constantia is truly Cape Town’s own wine route. The breathtaking beauty of a valley where vineyard rows stretch up the mountainside – within minutes of a capital city – is unique in today’s overcrowded world.

The Wine Shop, situated at the entrance to the farm, has informal tastings of the
Constantia Uitsig Wines throughout the day.

Expert staff are on hand to assist with any queries – be it food and wine matching or a history on the farm. Browse through our selection of fine olive oils, brownies from The River Café or wine accessories and books on the Cape’s magnificent Winelands.
