Ellerman House

ellerman house, cape town luxury lodging

Like the stately homes of old, part of the charm of Ellerman House lies in its originality.
It has the air of a family home where generations have collected personal treasures that add points of interest to the decor, these touches contributing to the overall classic style of the house.

Ellerman House has 11 bedrooms, each of them decorated individually. Original art from the hotel's extensive private collection hang on the walls while complimentary whisky and sherry is decanted into beautiful cut glass decanters.

Photographs of previous residents of Ellerman House - when it was still a private home - are mounted in silver frames and lend an air of continuity and history to each room. It is these welcoming home-away-from-home touches that contribute to the integrity of the service offered to guests.

Of course, modern conveniences such as under floor heating, air conditioning, satellite television, heated towel rails, luxurious toiletries, Internet connections and other technological treats are mandatory, allowing guests to indulge in the pleasure of sheer relaxation.

The jewel of Cape Town, Ellerman House is one of the finest luxury hotels in the world, in the finest of locations.

Ellerman House is an historical landmark situated on quite the most spectacular site on Kloof Road in the premier Cape Town suburb of Bantry Bay. Bantry Bay is wind free and with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Guests can experience breathtaking year round sunsets.

It is within walking distance of the famous Clifton Beach, ten minutes from the centre of Cape Town and the bustling Waterfront and a mere 45 minutes from the heart of the winelands. It is the perfect springboard from which to discover the Cape's many and varied attractions - sun-drenched beaches, word class restaurants, majestic Table Mountain, spectacular scenic drives, golf courses, the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, and some of the special places that only Capetonians know.

Room One was once Lady Esther Ellerman's bedroom. With its wraparound balcony offering magnificent views of Lion's Head and the Atlantic Ocean, it is a grand room. Guests can even enjoy sea views from the comfort of their bed. Absolute privacy is a given.

Room Five is an ode to elegance. With its view of the natural rock water garden, and the relaxing sounds of tinkling water, it is not surprising that floral tones and a sumptuous cream bathroom enhance the spacious room. Ladylike and graceful, it too has a private balcony offering space for reflective thought.

Room Six is intimate and special. The only room at the back of the hotel, without a balcony or sea view, it is elegantly decorated in olive tones and distinguished by a richly decorated bathroom finished in grey and salmon marble. It is ideal for someone intent on enjoying absolute solitude.

Room Seven is one of the hotel's two suites. The Ellerman Suite is elevated and lofty, with a dressing room, separate dining room and meeting room cum office alongside its private staircase. With immense views over the sea, brought into the room by the balcony, and coupled with its signature creamy, plush decor, the suite is about pure indulgence.

Room Eight is situated in the 'new' wing that was added when the home became a hotel. Superbly appointed in sophisticated creamy beige with hints of black, its double volume spaciousness is expanded still further by its private balcony. The dramatic split-level bathroom continues the beige and black theme, and also has a sea view

Room Nine is fit for a king with its slightly masculine tones brought into sharp relief by solid bespoke furniture and opulent drapes. An extravagant conservatory at one end of the bedroom adds to the unusual atmosphere while the panoramic views of the ocean and the hotel's landscaped gardens are priceless. The spacious beige bathroom offers a cool and indulgent haven for peace-seeking guests.

Room Ten is a sonnet of serenity. With its commanding view of historic Robben Island from the sea-facing balcony, the room is generously proportioned and has a distinctive split-level lounge. Decorated in refreshing greens and cream with a hint of burgundy, the theme is carried through to the bathroom which has a striking green slate and black finish.

Room Eleven is the East Wing Suite, a fabulously appointed sea-facing collection of four rooms. Rich creams, beiges and blues draw the sea's light into the suite while a private wraparound balcony opens out on to the garden terrace and pool area of the hotel. The suite's dining room seats eight, making it a perfect space to entertain guests in a homely atmosphere, but with all the advantages of a first class hotel renowned for its food and wine.
