On arrival at Cape Town International Airport you will be met by an Ascot Golf Tours representative and assisted with your rental car. Follow the representative to the hotel where he will take time to explain the vouchers to you and answer any questions which you might have about your holiday.

This luxury hotel opened in August 2003 and is designed to suit the needs of the business and leisure traveller alike. Upon arrival at reception one is greeted by a barrage of receptionists and a small army of flat screen computer check-in monitors.

This setup does, however, blend in perfectly with the 21st century slick and stylish interior. Leather chairs and highly polished marble floors are punctuated by chic African artefacts on the walls.

The Sheraton has facilities to cater to your every whim. One phone call allows you to order anything from a new light bulb to a chicken mayo sandwich at two in the morning, and the television in your room even tracks the status of your order!

Rooms are modern and sophisticated, though not particularly spacious. This is well compensated for, however, by the oversized, custom-made 'Sweet Sleeper' beds. The Steenberg Golf Course and Estate offers the golfer the complete package. In terms of a resort course, look no further than Steenberg. The five star graded Steenberg country Hotel, championship golf course, guided tours and wine tasting on the edge of the Constantia winelands make golfing at Steenberg an unforgettable golf experience.

Steenberg is both private and exclusive. Only hotel guests, members and their guests are allowed on the course. This is a luxury in season, as it avoids over crowding normally associated with golf courses in Cape Town during the summer months of November to April.

Steenberg Golf course has a flat layout with wetland and parkland features. The fairways are divided into four distinctive regions, namely Wetlands, Parklands, Cape Flats and Fynbos. These regions take advantage of all natural features and hazards that golfers have to navigate. Some of these features include large waste bunkers, running creeks, water hazards and excellent bent greens. Check out the par-three 7th at the start of the wetland section of the course. It is surrounded by water on three sides and a bunker on the fourth.

Formed in 1885, the Royal Cape Golf Course is the oldest club in South Africa and the whole of Africa. It is a championship course of some repute and has hosted the prestigious SA Open 11 times. Once you visit this flat parkland golf course you will see why. The tree lined fairways are narrow with many water hazards and bunkers. The golf course is always well groomed and has mountain views from just about every hole. The greens are modern with bent grass.

This course is a challenge and demands a repertoire of shots, from accuracy off the tee box to pinpoint short irons. What starts off as a pleasant round of golf could turn into a nightmare unless, of course, you consider yourself a pro!

The Royal Cape Golf Course is fairly unprotected from the South Easter and when the wind is blowing, your handicap will be seriously challenged!

This championship course is situated alongside the Bot River lagoon bordering the Kogelberg Nature reserve.

The Arabella golf course has a demanding and exceptional design that offers a challenging experience to all levels of golfers. It puts professional golfers to the test and at the same time is playable for the average hacker. The fairways are wide and spacious. Both fairways and greens are in an exceptionally good condition.

Choosing a signature hole is tough as the 9th, 17th and the 18th all run parallel to the lagoon. As a result, we have chosen the par-three 17th. This hole requires a precise tee shot. If you miss the green to the right, you might find yourself on the beach!

The youngest of Fancourt's four layouts serves as the resort's public course and is likely to be busier than the others.  There are not many trees on the course and some holes have a links-like feel.

The course is young and the holes still have to fight it out for the coveted signature hole status.  The par-four third is likely to win the race.  Measuring 365m off the back, the hole doglegs to the left around a water feature.

Golf at Fancourts Montagu Golf Course.

The Fancourt Montagu is considered one of the best conditioned golf courses in South Africa and has been ranked as the top course in the country a few times. The Montagu takes in a setting of mountains, water and wildlife. It is cleverly designed, picturesque and presents a challenge to golfers of all levels.

These Gary Player designed courses are demanding fair tests set in beautiful surroundings. The generous kikuyu fairways and fast bent grass greens give a taste of the type of course, popular on the US tour.

The most challenging, nerve-racking and enjoyable hole is the par-three 17th. Only by clearing a large expanse of water can the green be reached - similar to the 12th at Augusta National.
