After a leisurely breakfast, make your way to the Constantia Wine Valley for your morning round of golf. Be sure to make time for tasting the Steenberg Wines and the wines of the other farms in the area. Enjoy a lunch at any of the renowned restaurants in the area.

Golf at Steenberg Golf Club.

Designer Ken Elkin.

Distance Champ 6 424m, Club 6 115m, Par 72.

The Steenberg Golf Course and Estate offers the golfer the complete package. In terms of a resort course, look no further than Steenberg. The five star graded Steenberg country Hotel, championship golf course, guided tours and wine tasting on the edge of the Constantia winelands make golfing at Steenberg an unforgettable golf experience.

Steenberg is both private and exclusive. Only hotel guests, members and their guests are allowed on the course. This is a luxury in season, as it avoids over crowding normally associated with golf courses in Cape Town during the summer months of November to April.

Steenberg Golf course has a flat layout with wetland and parkland features. The fairways are divided into four distinctive regions, namely Wetlands, Parklands, Cape Flats and Fynbos. These regions take advantage of all natural features and hazards that golfers have to navigate. Some of these features include large waste bunkers, running creeks, water hazards and excellent bent greens. Check out the par-three 7th at the start of the wetland section of the course. It is surrounded by water on three sides and a bunker on the fourth.

After a leisurely breakfast, make your way out to Royal Cape for your morning round of golf.

Golf at Royal Cape Golf Club.

Designer Dr Charles Molteno Murray.

Distance Champ 6 121m, Club 5 787m, Par 72.

Formed in 1885, the Royal Cape Golf Course is the oldest club in South Africa and the whole of Africa. It is a championship course of some repute and has hosted the prestigious SA Open 11 times. Once you visit this flat parkland golf course you will see why. The tree lined fairways are narrow with many water hazards and bunkers. The golf course is always well groomed and has mountain views from just about every hole. The greens are modern with bent grass.

This course is a challenge and demands a repertoire of shots, from accuracy off the tee box to pinpoint short irons. What starts off as a pleasant round of golf could turn into a nightmare unless, of course, you consider yourself a pro!

The Royal Cape Golf Course is fairly unprotected from the South Easter and when the wind is blowing, your handicap will be seriously challenged!

In the afternoon, check into your hotel and treat yourself to a spa treatment.

Overnight at Sante Winelands Hotel

After a leisurely breakfast, make your way to nearby Pearl Valley Golf Course for your round of golf. Afterwards explore the historic town of Stellenbosch, visit Spier Village with its Cheetah and Raptor Programmes or enjoy a lunch on one of the many wine farms.

Golf at Pearl Valley Golf Estate.

Designer Jack Nicklaus

Distance Champ 6 511m, Club 6 090m, Par 72.

Pearl Valley is the latest addition to the Jack Nicklaus s repertoire of signature-designed courses worldwide. The Pearl Valley Golf Estate is surrounded by the Simonsberg and Drakenstein Mountains and bordered by vineyards with The Berg River water hazard running through it!

Nicklaus has stayed true to his design principles by working closely with nature and has provided a golf course that fits in with the environment. This fairly flat and largely uninterrupted terrain enabled Nicklaus the freedom to develop hole strategies making this a golf course the golfer has to think his/her way around. The course is spectacularly set in beautiful surroundings and it is only a matter of time before Pearl Valley hosts an international golfing event.

The fairways are unique in that they have been sown with all season cool grass imported from the USA, a first in South Africa. With 17 hectors of running water, water hazards come into play on just about every hole. Typical of a Jack Nicklaus design there are many bunkers, 76 to be exact, which have been cleverly sculptured into the fairway and around the greens!

The course is so new that a signature hole has not been decided on but the resident pro assures us that it's the par-three 13th. The green is situated on the edge of a small dam that must be cleared with a bunker guarding the far side.

After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy a round of golf and afterwards treat yourself to a spa treatment or explore the surrounding area.

Golf at Pezula Golf Club.

Designer Ronald Fream/David Dale.

Distance Champ 6 394m (7 030 yards), Club 5 987m (6 579), Par 72.

Sparrebosch Clifftop Estate in Knysna is home to the spectacular Pezula Golf Course. The only serious problem that you could face when playing at The Pezula Championship golf course is running out of film for your camera! Pezula, without doubt, possesses one of the best locations on the African continent. This golf course is situated on the East head of Knysna, overlooking the Indian Ocean, Knysna lagoon and the Outeniqua Mountain range. It is also in the heart of the famous

Garden Route
.

The course's designers, Ron Fream and David Dale (Golfplan USA) have compared the look of Pezula golf course to that of Gleneagles in the Scottish Highlands and Pebble beach on the Monterey coastline. A terrain of rolling fairways, fynbos and eyebrow bunkers does, however, make it very difficult to walk this course but don't panic golf carts are provided for all golfers!

The five different tee options on every hole cater for all skill levels. No two challenges, or views, are alike. The signature holes are the three holes built on the cliff top overlooking the ocean; the par-five 13th, par-four 14th and the par-three 15th. The par-four 14th is particularly challenging - it is short and requires you to lay-up before firing at the pin. The green is completely surrounded by bunkers so be careful not to overshoot out-of-bounds and over the cliff!

After a leisurely breakfast, make your way to Simola for your round of golf.

Golf at Simola Golf Club

Designer Jack Nicklaus

Distance Champ 6466m, Club 6095m, Par 72.

18 holes designed by Jack Nicklaus - the Golden Bear himself - and built in two natural amphitheatres. Glorious views from every corner of the course. The Outeniqua Mountains, the Knysna Lagoon, the Indian Ocean and the clean, pure air of South Africa's Garden Route. Golf at Simola is the sublime experience.

It goes without saying that a course as great as Simola should have a club house to match.

The Simola Golf Clubhouse will be part of the Grand Simola Hotel. Guests and members will have access to hotel facilities like our Gourmet Restaurant, indoor training pool and Wellness Centre.

The Simola Golf Clubhouse will also give offer its very own Pro Shop as well as spacious changing rooms. And the exclusive Private Lounge will comfort the needs of each of our prestigious members.

As golf courses on the

Garden Route
tend to be very special, this is no different. When you walk off the 18th at Simola you will look back on the course and say 'wow, that was a fantastic layout'.

The spectacular 10th hole involves a tee-shot from a 200meter elevated tee. Your ball has a huge amount of air-time before landing in a narrow landing area of this incredible par 4.

After an early breakfast, make your way further along the N2 into the Eastern Cape Province past Port Elizabeth. Upon arrival at your lodge, check in and freshen up in time for afternoon tea and evening game drive, followed by dinner.

Overnight at Shamwari Game Reserve

Welcome to Shamwari Game Reserve, 20 000 hectares (49000 acres) the malaria free, private game reserve situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, has received numerous international awards, including the Worlds Leading Conservation Company and Game Reserve for five consecutive years.

It is situated in verdant bush along the Bushmans River, halfway between Port Elizabeth (45 minutes drive outside the city) and Grahamstown, a pleasant drive from Cape Town, forming a natural extension to the famous

Garden Route
. Shamwari is about conserving a vanishing way of life and is the realisation of one mans dream, and the success of many peoples passion.

Steeped in Settler history, and dating back to the time when a multitude of game roamed wild and free, the 20 000 hectare reserve boasts five eco-systems, thus enabling the support of many forms of plant, animal and bird life. This is the ultimate African adventure and conservation effort coupled with responsible tourism.

When you visit  Game Reserve, we want you to have the safari of a lifetime...rangers dine with you - sharing daily experiences and providing further information.

Something you'll look back on in years to come, long after the video has been lost and the photos have faded. We want you to experience, learn and enjoy the very best that African wildlife viewing can offer.

To achieve this goal, the staff at Shamwari Game Reserve have brought together the best that the area has to offer. There is great game viewing, of course, but we also provide modern Land Rovers converted into open viewing. Each vehicle has a trained ranger who will increase your enjoyment with his knowledge of both the flora and fauna. The rangers are in 2-way communication with each other at all times, so on any day they know where the game is, and how to find the elusive animals such as the rare Black Rhino.
