May 07:A Steam Tour Victoria Falls to Pretoria

Steam Safari

A Steam Tour in Gracious Luxury

Victoria Falls to Pretoria

Victoria Falls ● Hwange National ParkBulawayo ● Polokwane ● Pretoria

03 to 08 May 2007

Rovos Rail has designed a unique six-day Steam Safari to entertain discerning steam and train enthusiasts. Savour the experience of a 1 600km steam-hauled journey with historic Class 19D and GMAM locomotives.  This magnificent Garret, No. 4079 is on loan from Sandstones Estates.

This five-night adventure begins as the train departs the quaint Victoria Falls Station and slowly meanders south towards Thompson’s Junction. Enjoy an early morning game drive in Hwange Game Reserve and relax for the rest of the day on the train as we head towards Bulawayo. After an early morning excursion in Bulawayo we continue southwards towards Beitbridge. South African border formalities will take place at Musina as we enter Baobab country.

Few sights are more evocative of primeval Africa than the eerie silhouette of a Baobab tree starkly outlined against a ruddy African sunset. Cross the Tropic of Capricorn just north of Morbeng and view the majestic Soutpansberg Mountains as we journey towards Polokwane for an afternoon visit. Journeys end is Rovos Rail’s gracious station at Capital Park, Pretoria.
