Rovos Rail has designed a unique four-day Steam Safari to entertain discerning steam and train enthusiasts. Savour the experience of a 1 200km steam-hauled journey with historic Class 25NC locomotives.   This panoramic sojourn commences at Rovos Rail’s Station at Capital Park in Pretoria. Travel the windswept grasslands of the gold rich Highveld to the Freestate, known as the Golden Country.  This description is due to the sunflowers that blanket the area, the vast plains of maize and the rich gold deposits. Visit Bloemfontein, the province’s capital, with its interesting array of cultural and historical attractions. The journey continues southwards into the Eastern Cape known for its diversity and striking contrasts of bright city lights, lush evergreen forests, wide open grasslands, pristine coastline and arid landscapes. Enjoy a visit to the Addo Elephant Park deep within the shadows of the dense valley bushveld of the Sundays River. The Park was proclaimed in 1931 when only 11 elephant remained. Today this finely tuned ecosystem is home to over 450 elephant, cape buffalo and several varieties of antelope species. Journey’s end is the friendly city of Port Elizabeth.
