The Chobe River experience is not a true wilderness experience like the Okavango Delta, Savute, etc. However it does form one of the 4 Eco regions of Botswana, and offers a unique wildlife experience. During the dry months, May to November/early December, when ever the rains come, the Chobe river is a main source of water, as many of the inland water beds dry up. Consequently, and in particuar, Elephant herds gather in there thousands along the banks of the river, Along with other animals, and the accompanying predators, the Chobe River offers game drives and as well river cruises, for a unique safari expereince. This area is the take of point for the bush flights into deeper areas of Botswana, if you are at the Victoria Falls, and as such, its a easy add on to a Botswana Safari. There is really one main luxury lodge, image below, Chobe Chilwero, in the area, but I have included a second, First Class lodge, as I prefer this location, over the luxury lodge. This lodge, the Chobe Game Lodge, is the only lodge located within the chobe game reserve. |
