This is a exciitng way to see vast of this Wilderness area, that would be otherwise unreachable. As well, Botswana safaris have the opportunity for Mokoro Safari. The Mokoro being a traditional canoe, a means of transportation, is used as a Safari vehicle, paddled by a trained guide. you can go a mokoro rtail safari, camping on small remore Islands. This allows for a very relaxing safari, coupled with walking possibilities. The Okovango and the Chobe areea create a seamless package with the Victoria Falls, and as such can be a minimum 5 night package and usually more,to this area. About Botswana - The Chobe and Savute/Linyanti : two important river systems on Botswana's northern border with Namibia. Excluding geographical boundaries, this area includes several natural reserves including Chobe National Park, the Savuti, the Selinda Reserve, Mahango Game Reserve, West Caprivi Game Park, Mudumu National Park and Mamili National Park
- The Okavango Delta: an ecologically important wetland subjected to a seasonal flooding cycle through the panhandle in the north in the permanently and seasonally flooded zones and the Moremi, Botswana's real wildlife "treasure trove" covering almost a third of the entire Okavango Delta - a diverse habitat where the desert and delta meet, consisting of forests, lagoons, floodplains, pans and woodlands.
- The Kalahari Desert : covering almost 70% of Botswana, the Kalahari one of the world's most extensive mantles of sand that extends south into South Africa, west into Namibia and north into Angola and Zambia.
- Walking Safaris: Certain areas in Botswana are particularly well known for walking safaris - we strongly recommend the Chitabe area and the Selinda Reserve.
- Mobile Safaris: Botswana's diversity and the distances between safari spots make mobile safaris a ideal option from a traditional fly in safari.....you cove the same ares as a traditional safari, seeing the land from a more personal, fuller perspective.
Botswana Weather: | | Botswana has a long and dry winter period from May to December, January to April is the wet season. Safaris in Botswana can be very sensitive to seasonal changes depending upon what you'd like to see. The following are rough guidelines but we strongly recommend that you obtain local advise during safari planning: | |
- The Okovango Delta :
- The floods arrive at Mohembo in December with a peak between January and March (sometimes as late as May).
- The flood in Maun usually reaches its peak in July or August (sometimes as late as September). Best game viewing is generally July to October. Some areas of the Delta experience heavy winds during August and September and some of the seasonal camps are closed during the wet season.
- The Moremi is good all year but best during the dry months from May to October, and the Chobe, the riverfront at Kasane and Linyanti is good all year - best from May to October.
- The Savuti area is best from November to May, however if the Savuti channel floods or water remains in the Mababe Depression then May to October is excellent. Mid-winter can be very cold and the worst heat, with very warm days, is encountered from September until the rains start.
- The Kalahari desert During winter, the days are hot (mid 30's) with night-time temperatures at sub-zero. Summer temperatures are scorching. Best tackled March to October.
